Greetings, Rotarians. Welcome to spring and the chance to enjoy some warmer weather. Apologies for the late invite but be assured, the delay is not of our making. On Wednesday, we had everything done and dusted. A great speaker had been confirmed, the invite written and all was well with the world. Then, today, we were asked if the speaker could postpone their presentation to add some extra elements. Hard to say no, really. But that meant no speaker for next Wednesday, the 6th of September at the Galley. Happily, at very short notice, another great speaker has stepped up to the plate and will talk to us on Wednesday.

Our own club member Scott Eliffe has a proud history in Oamaru. In the early years of the 21st century he was one of the pioneers who revived the Victorian precinct, creating and staging a successful drama, The Great Storm of 1866 and also producing a development proposal for Victorian Oamaru which went up to Wellington and become the inspiration for Whitestone City. So, before he left town, Scott was an innovator who made a very significant contribution. Now he’s back to manage the Observatory Retirement Village, something else he may talk about. So there’s plenty for him to discuss and a lot for us to learn about one of our own. Please join us next Wednesday at The Galley to enjoy Scott’s speech and an early spring evening of fellowship starting, as usual, at 5.30. See you at next Wednesday, September 6 at The Galley and please, please remember to register so we can provide accurate numbers for Debby - President Ian

P.S. Don’t forget to lend a hand at the Meet the Candidates night,

Thursday September 14 and also be sure to consider nominations for

Directors and the Trust to be appointed at our AGM on September 20.

Meal:

The meal is $26 which you can pay by cash on the night or by internet banking before the meeting.

September 23rd Rotary 4WD trip to Glencoe Run

Saturday 23rd September 2023

Mt Miserable is named appropriately for a bad day, but on a good day it has spectacular views. At 10am on September 23rd we will meet at the Glencoe Run woolshed at the end of Mt Misery Rd and drive to the top of the hill. This is a great chance to socialise with other Rotarians and see some great country thanks to Ele and Grant Ludemann who have invited us to access their iconic property.

RSVP using the form below and indicate whether you have a 4WD and any seats or whether you need a ride to the top.

Cost is $20 and we will have a BBQ at about 1pm on our return from the top.

Please note, take care turning right into Mt Misery Rd off SH1 after the bridge at the Millhouse. You may want to let traffic past before you enter the bridge as space and visibility are limited on that corner. Click here for directions or use the map below.
